Hi! My name is Carol Cane and I have been the Activities Director for over four years. I LOVE MY JOB! The people here at Continental are absolutely the most wonderful people on the planet. Warm, friendly and very caring. I'm a Philadelphia girl and growing up in a major city, well lets just say the atmosphere is completely different. People from the city are fearful of almost everyone, but here at CCC you don't have to worry.

Our Magnolia Room is where most of the activities occur but when the weather is nice and cool, I do utilize our beautiful front lawn area. With the help of the residents, we have had some really great BBQ Parties along with music and anything else you can think of. I think what is on everyone's mind is having a great time with old friends and making new friends.

We also have a beautiful, newly remodeled swimming pool and deck area which includes a hot tub and baby pool and of course I encourage everyone to check this area out. Some of the fun things that go on there is our water aerobics with Marci. Marci is a licensed aerobics and weight training instructor. So in the warmer months, Marci is in the pool and when those temps get cooler, she brings the aerobics inside. We also play Aqua Golf which is usually hosted by our Celtic Cousins Club. "If you think you're good on the greens, try playing on water". Talk about laughing and having fun.

With having a wide range of people who have moved to Continental from all over the US, Canada and Great Britain. I try to have as many different events as possible. For example I have an annual Mother's Day Tea as well as a Father's Day Luncheon. I also have an annual fashon show but it may not always be clothes and a Resident Christmas Party. Then inbetween these events, I will throw in dances, entertainment shows, movie nights on our 52" TV, bowling on our WII gaming system. In fact the Activities Association just purchased a new popcorn machine so now at movie night you will smell and eat fresh hot popcorn along with a large array of other tasty treats and beverages.

Health and Fitness are two areas that are on most older people's minds and something I don't ignore. We have had numerous guests speak on health issues. Every month John is here to make sure your hearing instrument is working properly. On Tuesday's Michele is offering Yoga classes and once a month she will conduct a "chair yoga" class. We also have a annual Health Fair as well as the Red Cross Blood Mobile is here about every six weeks. Make sure you check out the "Health and Fitness" section of our site along with our monthly calendar for the times and dates.

You may be saying to yourself, doesn't anyone play cards? Well that answer is yes. They play cribbage, bridge, duplicate bridge, pinochle, double pinochle, hand & foot and mahjong. We also have billards, dominos, horse shoes, pickleball, ping pong, shuffleboard and tennis just to name a few. Oh, I can't forget! We also have Bingo.

One of the very unique things that I can do as a licensed Travel Agent is offer our residents "Bus Trips". Every month my people are going somewhere. The Hard Rock Casino in Tampa is a popular bus trip but we also travel to Tampa and Orlando to see Broadway Shows. Living in Wildwood we are fortunate to have both performing art theatres within a short driving distance from Continental. Make sure you check out the "Trips" section of our web site for the newest information on locations, dates and times. One word of advice, make your reservation early because 99% of these trips sell out.

You are probably saying to yourself "Wow", how does she do all this. My answer is this! Thanks to all the wonderful people that live in Continental, I don't have a problem getting volunteers to help with the planing and arranging that needs to be done to make the "show" a success. In fact we have so much fun putting these events together, that sometimes it doesn't feel like work, but trust me it is. One big question I get all the time is "...how do I come up with my ideas?" Simple - I listen to people, I see things in magazines or billboards, I search the internet. Then my mind starts working and who knows what I will put together, but it will be either fun or informative.

After everything else, I still have time to write a weekly column for The Villages Newspaper called The Daily Sun. You can find my column on the front page of the "C" section on Wednesday. Make sure you read my newest column by clicking the link below.

Take care and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
