Continental Open
For over 25 years Continental Country Club has been as host to the Florida Professional Golf Tour’s Continental Open, featuring some of the top mini-tour players in the country. In the past, players like Don “Big Break” Donatello who tied our course record of 62 and Dave Rummells have played.
In 2008 this event became a charity event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. We have raised over $7,000 for the charity in the past 2 years. In 2013, over $5000 was raised to continue the battle to find a cure for cancer.
In 2009 80 pros came out to compete for prize money. The winner was Jhared Hack, who took home $3,000.
The Pro-Am portion of this event gives our members the opportunity to meet and play with the pros.
The Florida Professional Golf Tour event on February 16 & 17 was a tremendous success with 60 golf professionals competing in this year’s event. Three players were tied at 8 under par after the first round with another 10 players within three shots of the lead. After the 2nd round Matt Nagy pulled out a 1-stroke win with rounds of 64 – 65 =129, earning him the winner’s check of $5,000.
The Continental Pro-Am, held in conjunction the FPGT tournament was held on Friday, February 15th with 92 amateurs and 23 professionals participating. The format for the event was 2-Net Best Balls from the team consisting of four amateurs and one professional. The winning team took home $60 in prizes with a score of 40-under par. This year’s event raised over $5,000 for its charity, Sumter County Relay for Life.
